Residence in Ishikawadai

We designed a serene and uniquely Japanese space in an old apartment building in the big city of Tokyo. The idea was to coexist tranquility and richness by arranging warm, authentic materials in an orderly fashion.

The balcony is planted with evergreen trees, maple trees that turn red in the fall, and nandina, a small garden where one can experience the changing of the seasons.

The spaces are then encompassed in a single soft circle, creating a small box garden in the midst of the metropolis, where the boundary between the outside and the inside is vaguely connected.
